Jason and I went on a date today. We visited McClung Museum, had dinner at Nama, and shopped at Mast General Store. Rachel offered to watch the kids for us, or, I'm afraid we would not have thought of this! It was a much needed, wonderful time, too. It was just nice spending time together chatting and looking at exhibits. Visiting UT campus was interesting as well to see all the changes. We took a look in Marble Alley, a new bowling alley in an old space. Looking at the wares in the store was almost as interesting as the museum, just different.

1/29/19 - snow day
1/29/19 - snow day
School was called off for the impending snow, so the kids slept in. When I got up Jason was awake and we looked at the rain change to snow. Then I took a conference call with a new tech writer candidate.
Joanna was delighted at the snow and Thomas was cute arranging to meet Joanna outside to play in the snow. I'll meet you outside! Jason made biscuits and gravy bacon and eggs for breakfast. Jason watched them play. I was working from home and worked a lot. John is in and he went to the gym. We talked just a little today about school and my work, and yesterday about college classes in tech writing.
Jason also made steak for dinner. It was a nice day. Jon went out to Andrew's planning to work out in the morning. But he's pretty much been both places about equal.

Focus on the goal
"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."

It is so easy for me to be preoccupied with my present troubles and earthly concerns. I need to keep in mind what my priorities are. The concerns I allow to consume my attention and rob my sleep and health are temporary and not even belonging to me.
Everlasting life is not something that starts after death, but it is happening now. I should not be overwhelmed by my concerns in my place of employment, for example, because the legacy I'm leaving is with my family.
My employer could easily discard whatever I'm building there. I've seen this before. Out with the old and in with the new. My employment is a means to supply my family. I work hard for my employer and sometimes confuse my output and processes and training and mentoring as if they are part of some sort of legacy, when in face the things are like tissues, a disposable tool used up and replaced by another. Even though I do good and industrious work, I'm sure I'll even see that one day. I'm sure it happens to everyone. We see it all the time.

Christmas visit with Dad on Grandma's birthday
Well, Sunday was Grandma's 86th birthday. We were corrected that it was her 85th and each one after this is also the 85th, and she does hope to have plenty more even if they all will be 85th birthdays.
As always, the visits to Grandma's are magical for the kids. She keeps beautiful dollhouses and Joanna enjoys playing with them, and Thomas, of course, likes to go play on the video games with Justin.
Dad made a lot of progress on his shed and even let the kids chop some kindling for the stove.
We got a little visit in with Caronna and Brenda as well, right off the start. It was good to see everyone.

Christmas 2018 at Rachel's
Saturday, we visited Rachel. We enjoyed some beef stew, cornbread, and brownies, probably too much. We saw Rachel, Andrew, Matthew, and Tyler, Austin, and Joshua. Thomas was delighted with his Nintendo Labo from Rachel and Nerf gun from Andrew. Joanna was delighted with her Baby Born girl doll from Rachel and her Nerf crossbow from Andrew. I got only a few pictures. This year I guess I was just wrapped up in the visiting, because I took very few pictures.
Joshua was pretty excited about Joanna and Thomas and he ran up to each of them to get a hug and be picked up by them.
Andrew sported a cool ugly sweater with a two-thumbs up Trump saying Make Christmas Great Again!
Rachel liked her satin hads and shoe gift card. Andrew hopefully wasn't too offended at having a TN plaque. He gave me some coffee--my favorite, of course. And he got Jason a sweater/sweatshirt. Jason also got new casual pants from Rachel.

Saturday we went to the race for the cure. I took the kids and we walked a very short way, then we went to the park beside the finish line. We stayed at the park till 9:30. Then, we went to breakfast at McDonald's and headed to the craft fair at the church. We had lunch there. After 1 pm, we headed home.
Jason had been cleaning and doing laundry preparing for his DC/TX trip.
I took a nap!
In the evening I cooked dinner and Jason went to the grocery store. Then we carved Thomas pumpkin. He did the eyes and nose himself.
Joanna helped get the seeds out and cleaned them, and I talked her though preparing the butter to make the roasted seeds.
Sunday we got up early and took Jason to the airport, first also picking up Andrew. After dropping them off we got Starbucks hot chocolate. A Sunday drive through the Cherokee blvd, sequoia hills dogwood trail, then we picked up breakfast and ate it early in the classroom before we started Sunday school.
After church we went to the crafts store.
Then we came home and ate sandwiches. I rested a few minutes while the kids played outside. I told them not to be yelling across the street and bringing other kids over, and joanna ended up coming in asking for the girl to come over. (I got on to her, telling her she could do whatever she wanted considering she entirely ignored what i told her to begin with. )
I made thomas his hat and the kids played outside. Called thomas in a couple of times to try the hat on. One time I got on him because he started turning the hat inside out. But I had. Not told him to do anything but try it on. I wasn't done.
We went to the Phelps family farm for the corn maze. There was a petting zoo and hay ride. We did the corn maze, pet and fed the animals, (washed out hands!) and ate s'mores. We did the hayride and then did the corn maze again, given it became a haunted one after dark. We ate hotdogs, then went on the haunted hayride. The creepiest part was one of the attacking people took a little girl off (she was part of the group running the place) and the lady she was with just was so non chalant about it I figured it was plotted in advance.
When we got back I asked that the kids could see the girl (Molly) before we left to know she was ok.

Joanna is sick and we think she has the flu. Jason took her to a clinic on Saturday night. They didn’t have any flu tests, but said it looked like strep or flu. They did a strep test which requires some time to grow results, but they started her on the antibiotic. They said if she didn’t improve, to start the tamiflu. So, Monday morning, we started the tamiflu because she still had a fever.
I stayed home today with Joanna. She had a fever and we needed to watch her temperature regularly. She’s now taking it herself, because she wants to, and since she’s figured out how to use the thermometer.
